Strange Things are Happening!!

If you haven't been into the shop lately, now is the time to drop in. Although you may not recognize it at first glance. The office you usually walk into is slowly becoming a boutique. Were hoping this will be your go to place for any gift you have to buy. We are still offering long arm quilting, classes, and kits for all of you that sew. But now even those of you who don't sew and have no desire to learn will enjoy Quilted Treasures Boutique!

Today the last of our handbags and wallets arrived. Monday our Babyleggings arrived. We painted last week now all we need is a Grand Opening and you better believe we've got one of those up our sleeve!

Saturday July 3rd right after the parade we'll be at the shop waiting for crowds to come. With cookies!! We'll have a float in the parade to show you just what we plan on selling at the shop now. I'm sure you won't miss us, were being escorted by a whole bunch of grandkids on stick horses. But after the parade stop in and visit with us. Were really excited about all the changes.

So as you can see, (were not revealing all of it, you'll have to stop in and see ALL the new stuff) we have a whole new store to come look at. We have a whole new style of flowers and headbands in stock. Our ruffle bummed onsies will be so cute with the baby leggings, we are carrying these adorable burp cloths and you can get a nursing cover to match. Perfect for any baby shower huh? Have I mentioned the jewelry yet? Yes, we'll have some of that too!

You may have noticed too, that we are on Facebook now. Were hoping to keep you up to date with what is going on and maybe even offer some great deals for you. Were even offering a free flower to the first Facebook fan who walks in on Saturday. Become a fan by clicking "Like" up in the top right hand corner.

Bamboo Batting

Were excited to announce our bamboo batting is now available in our etsy shop. Were offering it for $12 a yard.

Here is a little information about Winline Textiles and their fabulous batting... A natural fiber made from renewable resources, durable, antibacterial, breathable, and thin scrim to prevent stretching and bunching. Antibacterial green manufacturing process. Machine or hand quilt approximately 8" apart. 2 to 3% shrinkage. No need for pre-washing.

Blessing Dress

We definitely survived from our weekend touring the state. Ok it was just a wedding and a baby blessing but we survived. It was a lot of driving and just when we thought we had recovered we got 3 more truck loads of cows so we are now over 260 pairs. Enough of that though, I want to show you The Dress .

This is my sister Melissa's baby Ava Jane. The dress looked beautiful on her.

We had a wonderful Easter weekend. The Easter bunny came and hid some eggs but not before he delivered a truck load of snow. ugh! oh well 2 more weeks of pasture, right? (Oh did I tell you I'm waking up early every morning to feed 120 cows. fun huh?)

Anyway, My mom came to visit on Saturday and we had lots of fun. She taught me how to make piping and then we went to the big city. but on the way my husband TOLD ON ME. Yep, told on me! I'm an adult right? I shouldn't be told on. But I was. (and he got a good laugh about it too)

You see my sister Melissa just had her baby. Ava Jane. That makes 5 grandkids for my mom. wahoo.

Well I wanted to make a blessing dress for her. (My mom has made both of her other granddaughter's dresses) It sounded fun and a little challenging so I volunteered. The blessing is this weekend and as of Saturday, I had the dress cut out. But my husband, he stuck me out on a limb. He said to me (in a quiet truck, on the way to the big city, right in front of my mom) "Kort, when are you going to start that blessing dress?" oh crap, I cannot believe he just said that! I knew I had been procrastinating, we all do it right? but I knew I had left myself plenty of time to do it. And I did. But my mom said "You still haven't started that!" and then she went silent. that was worse than her yelling at me and telling me I would never get it done in time. I felt like a little kid in trouble.

But As of today at 3:17 p.m. it is finished and I didn't JUST do the dress. No, I had to prove that I had it under control! (I'm a little competitive like that) so I did a little extra and I will let you see that now.

Cute huh? That is the sneak peak. I'm not showing you the dress until the baby is wearing it. But I will tell you I made it out of dupioni silk and it is beautiful. Oh and can you see the blood on that shoe? anyone know how to get blood out of silk?

We have a super long weekend that starts tomorrow and 800 driving miles later (with 2 kids under the age of 4) ends Sunday. See you, maybe

A Little Show and Tell

While my mom has been busy with the quilt show, I have been piddling around here. I've had these pillows I wanted to cover for nearly a year. Do you ever do that, think you will get to a project and put it of again and agin?

Here they are. I bought canvas drop cloths to use as curtains and then I changed my mind about the curtains. What do you think?

Here is a sneak peak at JayLee's Easter dress. It is the first time I've made her Easter dress and it is turning out so cute! I'm using a ModKid pattern.

The frustrating thing is that it would have been done by now but I ran out of ric rac. Not a problem for most people right? They can just run to the store and buy some. Not me. We have a small fabric store in town but they annoyingly never have what you need. I went in for white ric and rac and the lady tried to get me bias binding. So after I showed her what ric rac was (sigh)she informed me they didn't have white. Thanks alot.

My next option would be the Wal-Mart which is a 45 minute drive one way. And since we order ric rac on the spool, you usually can't find it the right size. So what do I do? I call my mom and ask her to ship it to me. It should be here today and I can finish it up. I'll get pictures up when it is done.

Thanks for listening to me rant. I do love living in the middle of nowhere surrounded by small towns but sometimes (crafting time) it sucks.

The Quilt Show

Last weekend was the Quilt Show. My mom and a handful of other super fun ladies are breathing a sigh of relief that it is over. They had close to 120 quilts there. I, being a non-quilter (that soon may be changing) had a really good time looking everything.

It is so inspiring to see all the work and the beautiful fabric that comes together to make a quilt. One of the most memorable for me was a quilt from an old pattern. This woman had a quilt that her great grandmother had made but was falling apart and she basically recreated it. I forgot to take a picture of it but I will post one within the next couple of weeks.

I showed you a sample of this quilt the other day and here it is finished. I LOVE that braided border. And then the piping makes it even better. Good job Deb!

I hope no one gets offended but I am picking a favorite. There were so many beautiful quilts there that I loved. But this next one was definitely my favorite! Cathy Gunter made this and I'm not sure who did the quilting but it is so beautiful! Good work ladies!

Here is a little twist on a rag quilt for you. So cute. I think any kid would love this! I wonder if I can do it in a horse?

This is Penny. One of the many fun ladies I met while sitting at my mom's booth. She took a class on how to make this bag. Lucky for us she came back to give us a little show and tell!

This is Penny again but look past her to the quilt hanging in the background. (I was a real slacker at taking pictures but I promise I will make up for it) Patsy made this quilt and then they raffled it off. It was kind of a scrappy quilt and I couldn't count how much apron fabric was in there. Patsy love it when I send my scraps over.

Here is our booth. This was a little different for me because I didn't have my aprons there. We were really trying to concentrate on patterns and classes my mom offered. But I have to say the booth felt a little empty compared to the Holly Fair (where we had to find a place for over 50 aprons).

To wrap this long post up I just have to say how much fun I had at the quilt show. I met so many wonderful, talented women! Were so blessed to be able to get together and share our talents and friendship with one another. Thank You!!

The Happenings and a Quilt I'm excited to see!

We got an early start on Halloween this year. We had a class and did this table runner. The class was full or we would have advertised on the blog. If you gals far away would like a kit, let me know and we can put one together for you.

I'm going to show you part of a quilt I'm really excited to see. Deb was working on it last time I was at my mom's. I'm only going to show you the border and maybe you'll get as excited as I was about it. I LOVE this border.

Now, if you are unsure of the colors I'll tell you the rest of the quilt is a cowboy quilt.

Then to add more "Cowboy" to the quilt she added piping. How cool is that? I'm so excited to see this quilt done. Deb is hoping it will be quilted for the Quilt Show. (My mom's quilt guild is planning a quilt show so there will be lots of pictures toward the end of March)

For all of you locals interested in attending the quilt show, I'll get the details up soon. There will be lots of quilts, classes, and vendors.

Postage Please!!

I LOVE quilts with little tiny blocks. So when Lesa told us she was doing a Postage Stamp quilt I literally squealed!
I was at my mom's shop when Lesa started it but when she finished I of course wasn't around because I live on the other side of the mountain. But while I was visiting my mom last week, I went to Lesa's picked it up and took pictures of it. You have no idea how much I wanted to take this home with me.

Lesa quilted it to. They just did a panto on it and can you believe they lucked out and that quilted flower ended up in the middle of that white spot.

I LOVE it!!

Double Wedding Ring Quilts

I think 4 ladies at my mom's shop are doing this pattern. It is a Judy Niemeyer Paper Piecing pattern and they are so beautiful! They are all using really different colors and prints so it makes it fun to watch them come together. My mom is the only one putting a white background behind the rings. The others are either using the dark brown or burgundy you can see in the picture below.

The one with the Burgundy background above is Deb's.

I'm pretty sure this one is Lesa's. You can always tell her colors. PS Lesa just got done with a postage stamp quilt that I took pictues of while I was at my mom's. So I'll share them in the next couple days.

This one is Mearl's quilt. I really love the brown behind it.

Paper Pieced Blocks

For Presiden'ts Day I went to my moms and got a ton of cool pictures of stuff she is doing. This should keep me going for a while so come back often. I really need to teach my mom how to blog so she can show you. I promise you wouldn't have to wait so long if she did it herself. I thought that I would show you all the blocks they have done for their paper pieced block of the month club first, so here goes

I also got some cool pictures of a paper pieced Double Wedding ring quilt, or blocks anyway. It is definitely fun to see 5 different color variations come together

Busy Bees

We've been terrible bloggers lately. But our excuse is that we have been busy. You see after the Holly Fair (huge craft show that took a lot of time) a gal contacted us about putting our stuff in her consignment shop. So my mom now has quite a few quilts at this consignment shop and I have whatever I do in the shop. It is called Over The Pickett Fence and is located in Vernal, UT and there is a great group of items there.

My aprons have surprisingly not been as popular there as I thought they would be. So I've been trying to find different things to put in. Which is one of the reasons I did those onsies. And then it occurred to me that everyone does baby and toddler items!!

**light bulb** no one does preteen. (at least in this area)

At the Holly Fair I had a lot of requests for skirts for ages 8-11. The complaint was that you can't buy anything long enough. I did a little online research just to make sure my sources were right. I went to the Gap and Old Navy. And if my 3 year old were 10 years old (I would have been like 14 when I had her) there was maybe 3 skirts out of both of those stores I would buy. So this little skirt was born.....or reborn because I've seen several versions of this

I'm making them in sizes 7-11 and they are knee length. I sent a bunch over to The Pickett Fence last week so now all I can do is wait to see how they do.

Sublime Apron

I know I said I would put Sublime on Etsy January 1st but today, I finally listed it. I also put all the aprons at $30 that is for all date night and even the reversible aprons it is a great deal and it won't last long. check it out

So, I've been thinking for a while. There are plenty of you that read our blog and know how to sew. So when you see our aprons, you think, "I could make that." My question for you is, Would you be interested in buying a kit. It would come already cut out with instructions, ric rac, and a covered button. Let me know what you think.

Fun Little Project

Caution!!! This project will leave you wanting a girl to try this on!!

I found this project on U Create. They had listed their top 10 tutorials for 2009 and this was #1. It was the first time I had seen it. They used cotton strips and added ruffles on the bum of a onsie. For the first onsie I pretty much followed the tutorial direction (except I used 2 layers of tulle) but didn't LOVE it. It is cute but we wanted it much fluffier. Here is the first one. I appliqued something on the front of all of them too.

Cute right.... But here is the next one I did. The strips are 3 inches wide and the whole width of the tulle. I stacked 3 layers of tulle and I only did 2 rows instead of 3. When you sew the tulle on you kind of have to scrunch the rows really close together. When you are done separate all the layers of tulle so it looks fuller (most important part).

What do you think?? If you try it let me know. Each onsie cost me about $2.50 (but if you got a good deal on onsies it could cost way less) and took about half an hour. That beats the $25 you will pay on etsy huh? Isn't this perfect when you are home all day and your baby just hangs out in a onsie? I'm thinking this would be a great baby shower gift. And I'm sort of thinking you won't forget tummy time anymore. I'm pretty sure this would actually encourage it!!

Sorry the pictures are so dark. I had to hurry and get JayLee to preschool and this apron had to go in the mail. With all the snow I only wanted to take 1 trip to town so you'll have to settle for crappy pictures.

I think it is Magic!!

Has anyone ever done any shirring? I havn't until this morning but now I'm in love with it. I've been looking for a good project to try it with for quite some time. Sandi henderson's Portabello Pixie pattern, Claire. There are so many options with this pattern and it gives you a great opportunity to do some shirring. She also has a great tutorial on her website all about shirring but there is plenty of informatino in the pattern to get the job done. My mom met Sandi at Quilt market and I'm pretty jealous. She does some great work.

Well here is what I did some shirring on. The Claire patern has some shirring on the peasant top and the peasant dress. JayLee found a fat quarter bundle for an ok price at the Damaged or lost in shipping store in town. For some reason she had to have it and I promise I've never seen fabric handled so much. Every time I turned around she had it back out. Right when we got home we had to pick a pattern and then she started making plans for this fabric. We were kind of limited bacause it was just fat quarters but we made it work. What do you think?

It's Over!!

The Holly Fair is over (thank goodness)! The Holly Fair is a craft fair we went to last year over in Roosevelt and it is a pretty big venue. They had 3 different locations that were packed full of people and stuff. We did really well and we can't thank the Uintah Basin enough! They gave us so many great compliments and since the week leading up to the Holly Fair we called it the "darn Holly Fair" it makes it a little more worth all the work to get there and be prepared for it. We took pictures of the booth but they are in my mom's camera, I'll see if I can talk her through getting them posted.

Now that the Holly Fair is over I had to move onto those projects I should have said no to. All you crafters might get those projects I'm talking about. Someone finds out that you sew and they immediately have a job for you. Well JayLee's preschool asked me to do a Christmas Tree skirt. I hadn't ever done one but I said I would do it for her so here goes..... What do you think? If it were mine I would have had my quilter friend (mom) quilt on it for me but we were trying to keep the cost down and this will be fine for what it will be used for. If you are interested I could write up a tutorial for it I whipped it in a couple of hours.

One more little project. Except I had to have this done so my mom could take it home with her. I dreaded doing it but it actually turned out pretty cute. Even Trent said so, but we were glad to get Denver Broncos junk out of our house! (ha ha Go Colts!!) My sister Melissa and I saw one of these car seat canopies in Old Navy. Some cute little mom had one and so we tormented her with lots of questions until we figured out how to make it. Hers was out of flannel so it was lined but I couldn't find Denver Broncos material in anything but fleece. I just bound it and put some ric rac around it. Cute huh?

Witch's Day Out....and some more STUFF!

I'm lucky enough to have this wonderful group of ladies call me family! Every couple of months they get together for a sister's day and they along with their daughters go and do something fun. Last month we went to Gardner Village to the Witch's Day out. Here are some pictures. The Witches are AMAZING! Take a Look. I plan on taking my girls next year.

We did a little remodel at the shop this weekend. We knocked out a whole wall so we would have more classroom space. We'll post some pictures soon or you can just come in and take a look. Were planning an open house sometime in January. We'll have lots of fun things going on. Free tutorials and demonstrations all day long.

This weekend is the Holly Fair we've been preparing so hard for so that is why the blog has sort of been neglected. We've been adding quite a bit to the shop so check it out. We've started selling a little bit of fabric it is a line any cowgirl will LOVE. Go ahead click on shop above and it will take you there.

Quilt Market Pictures

I hope you have some time because this might be a long one!! You don't mind though do you?

I got to go to quilt market with my friend Luann who owns Winline Textiles. She sells me the batting I use. She had a booth there and I had the greatest time helping her out. Here is her booth.

If you have been into the shop you know how much I LOVE this batting. I won't use anything else. CLICK HERE to go to her website. All you have to do is feel the difference. I use a lot of her bamboo, the 80/20, and the 12 oz. I wandered around at quilt market looking at all the batting companies because I wanted to know that I was getting the most out of my money. I was. Try Winline Textiles. Watch for a giveaway of the 80/20 batting within the next couple of months.

This isn't a very good picture but it is of the Security Guard blocking the door before Sample Spree. I went up to the front of the line to take this picture becasue who knew they would need crowd control at quilt market?? Well up there at the front of the line was the person over secutiry and he tells his employees to treat quilt market like a Pearl Jam concert for old ladies. We are that wild I guess.

This is Patricia Bravo of Art Gallery Fabrics. This is person number 1 on Kortnie's long list of people I needed to meet (because she was so jealous I got to go). That little bundle of fabric she is holding is now in Kortnie's possession so I think I did pretty good. Kortnie had been telling me since the Home Machine Quilt show (where she got a couple yards of Art Gallery Fabric) that I needed to look at her stuff. I am sort of busy and I don't really like the stuff she likes so I just kept telling her OK Kort, OK Kort and never did. But I am so glad I did. Her stuff is absolutely beautiful! The colors are amazing and it is like nothing else that you see. Check her website and her blog out.

To give you a feel of just how big quilt market is I took these pictures from above. It was so big and there were so many amazing things to see. This is really an amzing industry to work in. I met so many amazing people I can't even begin to tell you what a great time I had!

I took some pictures of a bunch of quilts and quilting so I'll probably add them in the next couple of days.

OK so we've all done it right? Saw something in the store or a pattern for something and thought, "I could make that!" So I did just that! I saw this. So it turned out in my favor when JayLee said, "Mom, I want a skirt" on the same day. It was meant to be, right? So I got to work. Of course I ran into some bobbles along the way and thought "patterns are so nice because all the measurements are written right there," but I endured to the end (as we say in Utah) and this is what I got....

So it turned out too big for JayLee and I was so unsure of it when I finished. I put it on a manequin and hung it on the wall and that is where it has sat for a month or so. A couple of people have stopped by to order aprons and do Halloween costumes and to my surprise they said how cute it was. I had forgotten it was even there but it has really grown on me. I LIKE IT!

There are of course some changes I would have made the first would of course be to make it shorter so it would fit a 3 year old instead of a 6 year old. Second would be to add interfacing to the non-gathered strips so they aren't so floppy but the pattern probably tells you that so when it comes out you should buy it. I however don't have that much patience so I will probably try again.

I'll let you know how it turns out but it may not be for a while we are trying to get ready for the Holly Fair which is a local craft fair we did pretty good at last year. My mom however is off to play at the International Quilt Market in Houston. She keeps rubbing it in and making us all jealous but don't think all 3 of her girls haven't given her a whole list of places to go and people to meet. Also Tamara over at Mad Boastings of a Cheapskate Mom is featuring our aprons in her giveaway series called Drabby to Fabby. Go check out her blog for some great giveaways. Bias Binding Flower Tutorial

Grab a strip of your leftover bias binding and lets get started. For this flower I used a strip 36 inches long but if you want to change the fullnes just change the length of your strip.

Increase the stitch length on your sewing machine to the longest possible. I also change the tension on my machine so it isn't so tight. (But remember to change it back for your next project I don't want any hate mail) Then run a baste stitch along the entire raw edge of your binding. Back stitch at one of the ends.

Now grab your bobbin thread on the opposite end that you backstitched and start gathering. Push all the gathers clear through the strip until your backstitch brings your gathers to a stop. Continue pushing the gathers through until your whole strip is gathered.

Now tie the strings so your gathers won't come out. Since your strip is already curled pretty well, all you have to do is fold the end under about a half inch so you don't see the raw edge then start winding the strip. Always placing the tail end of the strip behind.
Once the whole strip is curled you get out your needle and thread and start tacking all the layers into place. I don't think there is a technical way to do this. I just start in the middle and go up and down until I have all the layers held into place. (Make sure you stay pretty close to the center of your flower because we are going to cover the stitches with a covered button.)

Next sew your button on. Then attach it to a hair clip, broach back (I don't know if that is what they are called but you can get them at craft stores), or just sew it on something.

There you have it! Sorry the pictures aren't great but it probably helps you figure it out. Enjoy!

Grandma 4 times

A lot of you may already know but for those of you who don't my youngest daughter, Hannah had her first baby. He was 5 weeks early but we are so blessed that they are both healthy and doing great. The baby shower was planned in Salt Lake for this weekend so we all got to get together and see the new baby. (Doesn't it make a shower a blast when you get to pass the baby around) He weighed 5 lbs 6 oz. and they named him Liam Cody. Here I am the happy grandma!

What do you do with all your leftover bias binding? Kortnie (my 3rd child) just started making some flowers out of our leftover binding. They are so cute on a hair clip, sewn on an apron, or used as a broach. Tutorial coming up this week!

Also, Kortnie just came up with her own apron pattern, the finished aprons will be sold in our shop or if you are interested in an Apron Class (people have been begging) leave a comment or send us an e-mail. This class will be $10 with no pattern fee. I'll post more information with more interest.

History of Aprons

I just got this e-mail and (since we make aprons) I thought I would share it with you

I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath, because she only had a few, it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and they used less material, but along with that, it served as a potholder for
removing hot pans from the oven.

It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears.

From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids. And when the weather was cold, grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove.

Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the autumn, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds.

When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner.

It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that ' old-time apron' that served so many purposes. Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons.

REMEMBER:

Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool.

Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw.

They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs was on that apron. I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron

Helper Arts Festival

It's over and boy are we glad! We had fun but we could have done without the rain, hail, and wind. Here are some pictures of our booth.

Andi was sitting at the booth selling bookmarks for their softball team and managed to get in several pictures. Isn't she cute. FYI her bag that she made in our class got Best of Show at the Emery County Fair and now she loves making bags. Wahooooo!

These ladys bought our aprons early Saturday and wore them all day long. We saw them go back and forth so many times, I finally asked them for a picture. Thanks ladys We met some great people and hope they keep up with us on the blog.

Coming to the Helper Arts Festival

The Helper Arts Festival is August 12-15. Quilted Treasure will have a booth there. We will have several pieced quilt tops available for sale. Some will be quilted some will not. A Good Book.

Just read the Persian Pickle Club (to look inside click on the link not the picture of the book. It will take you to Amazon and you can read a couple of pages) The first chapter I laughed so loud I had to read a couple of pages to Trent. It is a great story of ladies who quilt and have a club. With the club comes great friendship and a couple of secrets. I just hope the ladies at your quilt guild don't have these kind of secrets.

Finally.... Last year a store in Price was moving so they had a bunch of shelving for sale. I went over and bought some but ended up storing it for a year. I wish I had a before picture to show you but just imagine all of these things plus my accucut on two tables. It was pretty bad and as you can imagine was pretty cluttered. I'm very happy with the end result though. What do you think?

You know the ones you thought would be so easy and then once you got it all sewn together and started cutting, you gave up several times within a year because CUTTING THEM IS A PAIN! visit the shop for one of these kits all bundled up with everything you need. If you don't see what you need let us know. We have some really cute kits made up that aren't listed.

Now if you just visited the shop and are thinking "$40 - $45 for a kit seems like a lot" allow me to be a salesman. This kit includes 3 yards of two different prints of quality flannel. So if I went to my local store that sells quality flannel I am going to pay $8 a yard. 6 times 8 is $48 and that is what you would spend just on fabric. Do I need to add the price of 80/20 batting I throw in? I don't think so.

If you are thinking of doing a rag quilt, buy a kit. If you are thinking, "I already bought the fabric" come in to the shop and rag it for $10. Cutting this quilt after you sew it will make you insane. Enough said.

Thread Saving Tip

I want to share this little tip to help you save thread and keep the dust out of you sewing machine.

Just grab a little scrap of fabric maybe a 4 inch square, fold it in half and keep it by your sewing machine. It might take you a while to get in the habit of grabbing it but at the end of every strip you do, grab your square and sew right over it so it is right under you needle. Then snip the threads so your square stays under your needle. That way you won't have to pull thread out after every thing you sew. You won't have to hold threads when you start and it keeps the dust out of your machine.

You might be thinking, "what a tight wod, thread isn't that expensive," and I agree, it isn't. It is however very annoying to run out and then see a big pile of wasted thread that you snipped off.

It is more annoying when you run out of bobbin and don't notice. There are lots of cuss words that start flying when we run out of bobbin and have sewn a whole strip or bound a whole quilt, but that is for another day.

Block of the Month

Our first block of the month club started last July. We picked a quilt called Lessons From Mamma and finished it in June. I got the borders put on it so here it is.

The other block of the month club we have going is Scrappy Beginnings. I love how this quilt turned out and the borders we chose are so cool.

Since the 1st block of the month club is over we started a paper pieced quilt for block of the month. Here is our first block.

Both block of the month clubs are full but Scrappy Begginings will be ending in October or November. We don't have the replacement quilt chosen yet but if you would like to reserve your spot let me know.

Bias Binding Tutorial

I learned how to cut bias binding like this in a little fabric store in Richfield, Utah. I was standing in line at Marcia's and an and older lady asked the woman cutting fabric if she would cut some binding for her. I stood there and watched her cut this binding and was so surprised at how fast it was. I had her fold some more fabric and cut more binding so I would know how to do it. To make sure I remembered it she folded a piece of paper and I took it home with me. Now it is the only way I cut bias binding.

So just so it is clear, I didn't come up with this method I am simply passing it along. I also want to mention that we are far from professional film makers but we hope you can learn from the video anyway. I hope you enjoy!

I recommend folding a piece of paper right along with the tutorial. That way you can put it right by your cutting table.

Our Birdie Sling class was this weekend and the girls did a great job on their bags. Andy used our new fabric and she is only 14. She did a great job and it turned out so cute.
